Why payroll pays well

Corporate headcounts have shrunk over the last six months, but payroll professionals are still sought after. Key reasons include the growth of redundancy processing work, the pre-recession leanness of payroll teams and an ongoing shortage of skills. Matthew Cook, Managing Director of Page Personnel, says not many businesses had much fat in their payroll teams to trim. "A lot of payroll is automated and most efficiencies were already in place before the downturn," he adds.
