What led you to recruitment from your background in sales?

I was really motivated by the career progression and opportunity that PageGroup provides. Our policy on organic growth was something I wasn’t accustomed to and I was keen to work for a company that invested so heavily in their own people. In addition PageGroup is able to utilise it’s global scale to encourage employees to work across various locations around the world throughout their career, and for me it’s great to have that option.

What have been the biggest challenges and how have you overcome them?

I’ve been lucky to do a few years of phone Sales prior to joining PageGroup, so I had a bit of a head start when it came to speaking to Clients over the phone. However I found that people are a more difficult sell as they have a tendency to change their mind from time to time, which was a learning curve for me initially.

What skills from your background in sales helped with your transition into recruitment?

In addition to the Sales piece I also spent 3 years as a Business Analyst and Project Manager at Hewlett Packard. This has been very beneficial since joining PageGroup as I now recruit Business Analysts and Project Managers across NSW, and I’ve found that my domain knowledge gives me unique credibility with both Clients and Candidates.

What is most rewarding about your job?

For me the most rewarding part is having end to end accountability for your desk and being in a position where you have autonomy to create your own success and earn great money.

What advice would you give someone with a sales background who wanted a job in recruitment?

My view is that there’s definitely elements of transferable skills from IT Sales that you can use in recruitment to gain an advantage against your competitors, and if leveraged in the right way you can be very successful at PageGroup.
